Planning and making sure that your wedding can be a very stressful task. We have always envisioned what type of wedding we would like to have. And it is a saddening fact that sometimes; we do make mistakes which left us to having the day not to be successful.

Richard Knight, a Wedding Toastmaster, have listed 8 Wedding Mistakes wedding couples should avoid to make the big day a successful one.

Tales of a wedding toastmaster: Top 8 wedding mistakes to avoid

WEDDING SHOES – WEAR THEM

Don’t leave until the day of you wedding to wear that beautiful shoe that you spent so long in choosing. Imagine being unable to walk properly on your big day due to the fact that those shoes are simply too uncomfortable! Get used to wearing them around the house at one month before your wedding to help stretch them and make sure they are a comfy fit. You’re going to be in them for hours! Worried about marking them? Try cutting up an old pair of tight or stockings to slip over them to protect them. Another idea is to have a older pair of shoes under your top table to slip into to give your feet a rest.

WEDDING PLANNING – TIMINGS

Timing is everything; it is fairly common nowadays to have a wedding rehearsal before the big day. This can certainly help in ensuring everything runs on time. While I personally don’t necessarily agree with this one, give the best man, groom and father of the bride a time limit for their speeches. It’s really useful to write down a plan for the times you want the drinks reception, wedding breakfast and evening entertainment to start. You can use an online; ‘Timeline Planner’ or just a simple notebook, whatever works for you. The main thing is you don’t want your Family and Friends waiting around needlessly if you want happy guests and a stress-free day.

DON’T FORGET THAT FINAL WEDDING DRESS FITTING!

You should feel as though you could wear your wedding dress forever. Don’t make the mistake of leaving it all to the last minute, you don’t want to be fussing around, resorting to using safety pins to secure that sagging bit or finding that the dress is a bit too tight so you’ll feel uncomfortable all throughout your ‘magical day’. Just arrange that final fitting a couple of weeks before the big day and give you and your gown supplier a chance to sort out the final adjustments needed to ensure that you feel like that ‘Princess’ you have always dreamed about OK?

SPOIL YOUR SELF, BOOK A WEDDING MAKE UP AND HAIR TRIAL

Feeling self-conscious on your wedding day will distract you from the more important things and you’ll simply hate your wedding photographs. You should not see your hair or make-up trial as a waste of money and view it more as insurance against turning round to face the mirror and not liking what your hairdresser or makeup artist has done to you and feeling uncomfortable for the rest of your wedding day.

CHECK OUT THE WEDDING FOOD!

It’s extremely important to arrange a suitable time to try the food before you commit to handing over a deposit to your chosen venue or caterer. Make sure that you discuss table settings so that you can decide what suits your wedding and then liaise with your venue decorator so that everyone is using the same script OK? After all it’s meant to be all about you and getting what you want for your special day!

DON’T FORGET TO PAY EVERYONE!

With so much going on before the wedding it’s quite easy to forget to pay the final instalment to your florist, car hire or catering services which could spell disaster! Please don’t ignore those polite reminders from your chosen suppliers for payment, no matter how busy or ‘stressed you are. No payment means a possibility of a ‘no show’. How disastrous would that be!

WORK ON A MUSIC PLAYLIST WITH YOUR WEDDING ENTERTAINER

This may seem like a minor consideration in the wedding planning stage, but there is no reason why you can’t work with your wedding entertainer and make a list of no-go songs. You don’t want your least favourite songs blasting out to your guests at your wedding party do you? Most experienced Wedding DJ’s and Bands will be flexible enough to accommodate your requests and suggestions, and if they are not willing? Don’t use them! Find one that does want to work with you to enhance your wedding.

DON’T BE THE WEDDING DRUNK!

Having one drink too many the night before your wedding, or at the reception, is a common mistake among brides and grooms. Don’t forget, you will spend all day with guests armed with cameras ready to snap you at every ‘drunken’ moment, also, the embarrassment will never leave you if every time someone suggests looking over your Wedding photographs video you try and make excuses as you don’t want to be reminded of just how awful you looked and behaved on your wedding day. Take it easy, it will pay dividends, I promise!
