“Yes, you CAN look just as good as the models in magazines given the right photographer and the right make up treatment!”

Studio BoudoirStudio Boudoir have also worked widely with many other models of varying experience / fame and specialise in a unique type of stylised vintage Hollywood ‘noir’ themed boudoir / glamour.

Based in a large Victorian house in Market Weighton, near York, Studio Boudoir is owned and run by Henry Jaremko who is the photographer and his wife Tracy who provides make up, styling and wardrobe. Henry has been involved in photography since the 1970s and commercially since 1999.

Henry explains:

“Silvercanvas, my main photographic business, has always been oriented towards providing photographic services to other businesses; magazines, personalities and so on. When I saw the huge rise in demand from the public for personal services such as boudoir photography it seemed a natural thing to do to start a separate business entity purely for addressing this market.

My aim was to create a high end photographic boutique but at a price ordinary people could afford. In addition I wanted to retain the same high quality approach as is available in photographic work used by top end fashion magazines and the media generally. In the past this has not been possible due to the large costs involved in high-end film processing… It was something only the very wealthy could afford.

Now, however, with advances in digital technology the costs have come down and the only thing stopping the public getting access to superb images is the problem of finding a photographer with the talent and the ability to achieve these looks.

With Studio Boudoir, I use exactly the same equipment, the same studio, the same cameras as I used to photograph Dita Von Teese on many occasions. Clients who hire Studio Boudoir for a boudoir photoshoot can be confident they are getting exactly the same photographic skills as those which created some of Dita’s most popular images.”

Some may find it daunting indeed to step into Dita’s shoes in front of the lens but Henry dismisses this:

“There is really nothing to be afraid of – nobody can replace Dita, but that doesn’t mean there is no glamour in the rest of us. Dita said herself that nobody is born with glamour – you have to carefully construct and manufacture it. I agree and believe that everybody is capable of it if only they can get the confidence to try and access to the right resources.”

“Age is no barrier either. Fantastic photography is simply one way of creating a glamorous image of yourself and once done can be very empowering as many women are finding. In the past only celebrities and the rich could aspire to glamour – now glamour is accessible to everyone. We are here, of course, to help you every step of the way and make this easier.”

Boudoir Noir“From make up and styling right down to the shoot itself. I am very happy to take as much time as necessary and provide guidance to those who are uncomfortable posing… and just as happy to work with those who have a clear idea of what they wish to do. We even have a wardrobe of vintage clothes and lingerie you can use if your own is lacking (though don’t forget a boudoir shoot is also a great excuse to go shopping!).”

So what does Henry feel makes Studio Boudoir different from any of the other many photographers offering boudoir services?

“Well celebrity connections aside, it’s partly about the aspiration to produce commercial quality on a budget for the general public as I’ve already mentioned. I’m on a mission to make every woman who wishes it as glamorous as they would like to be. Yes, you CAN look just as good as the models in magazines given the right photographer and the right make up treatment. We feel strongly about this and that is why our focus is very much on the end product. We are less about providing pampering and a spa-like experience than about working towards fantastic imagery.”

“For us it’s all about the end result though of course that doesn’t mean that the process of getting there can’t also be fun. I tend to find my shoots start slowly while the client becomes comfortable and then burst into a frenzy of activity as the client suddenly comes to understand how the whole process works and starts enjoying every second of it. When it’s time to stop many want to continue – even after long 5 or 6 hour shoots!”

“The other thing I think where Studio Boudoir differs from others is our own unique approaches to the usual boudoir and portrait formats which I call “Boudoir Noir” and “Portrait Noir”. These variations of style are about the careful control of light and shadow to produce striking images. It is commonplace in regular boudoir photography to have ‘chiaroscuro’ styled lighting (i.e. shadowy, atmospheric). I take this one step further in that I seek control of the shadows – it’s not enough for me to have just darkness – I want to control how much darkness and whether there are hints of form in the shadows. The results I believe are self-evident in my pictures.”

“So I believe that when you put it all together, it is this combination of my aims and my unique approach that makes Studio Boudoir pictures what they are.”
