Passengers planning a surprise Valentine’s Day proposal don’t have to worry about their plans being scuppered by security checks at Manchester Airport this year as a secret code will be in use.
Staff at the airport have devised a special system for searching travellers this weekend in order to avoid any embarrassing revelations.
Anyone planning to pop the question and who has hidden an engagement ring in their luggage or about their person can simply whisper a secret code to staff and this will ensure that they are searched out of sight of their travelling partners.
Manchester Airport’s director of customer services and security, said:
“Our staff are more than happy for passengers to use the secret phrase especially if it avoids ruining a romantic proposal they had planned.”
Apparently, romantic surprises have been spoilt in the past when a ring has been revealed while staff search through travellers hand luggage. Now that security checks have become standard the airport are keen to avoid any embarrassment.
The arrangement will end on Monday and the secret code is ‘Be My Valentine’.
