Celebrity Weddings

Celebrity weddings are big news, and come with an even bigger price tag. With the advent of reality television the list of celebrities seems to grow by the month. You can be assured that if one thing is destined not to go out of fashion it is the ‘celebrity wedding’!

DAVID & VICTORIA BECKHAM - JULY 1999

David & Victoria BeckhamIs this where it all started? We’ve had high profile weddings before but ‘Posh’ & ‘Becks’ seem to have set a standard that many have since tried to follow.

The first couple to use wedding thrones to confirm their celeb royalty status, David and Victoria tied the knot at Luttrellstown Castle, near Dublin in July 1999. After a small family ceremony, hundreds of guests, all decked out in black and white, enjoyed a luxury banquet attended by 400 staff.

They created their own coat of arms and matching thrones for the celebrations. A purple flag with the initials V & D, B on it was raised as the couple were pronounced man and wife. The bride and groom then released 100 doves into the air and a firework display rounded off the evening’s festivities.

The other members of the Spice Girls, most of the England football team and about 230 other guests attended.

Victoria wore a stunning champagne £60,000 dress by Vera Wang.

OK! Magazine reportedly paid £1 million for exclusive rights for the wedding photos. And, allegedly, all the guests (including the couple's son Brooklyn) were security tagged!

KATIE PRICE & PETER ANDRE - SEPTEMBER 2005

Katie Price & Peter AndreTaste and restraint were thrown out the window at this showbiz bash! In a bid to make Barbie jealous, Jordan had the pinkest ever wedding at Highclere Castle in Berkshire. The pair sat on matching pink thrones, guests slurped pink champagne and ate canapés from pink platters.

As if the pink frenzy wasn’t enough to turn stomachs, the adorable couple then serenaded one another with Disney’s A Whole New World.

Sarah Harding and Kerry Katona were bridesmaids while other guests included Gazza, Big Brother's Orlaith and Vanessa Feltz.

Jordan arrived in a Cinderella-style carriage, sporting a Barbie pink gown by Isabell Kristensen – a team of 12 people spent three weeks hand-sewing thousands of pink Swarovski crystals on to the bodice while the dress’s train was the longest in the world ever at the time, 2,700 foot long. The look was topped off by a foot-high pink crown and a wedding ring with 35 princess-cut diamonds.

Jordan secured a rumoured £1.75 million deal from OK! but blew most of it on her fairytale wedding bash.

CHERYL TWEEDY & ASHLEY COLE - JULY 2006

Cheryl Tweedy and A Complete TosserPerhaps not in the same league as Posh & Becks, but this couple certainly tried to make their mark when they tied the knot in July 2006.

Having previously booked Highclere Castle for their big day they secretly transferred the event at the last minute to Wrotham Park in Hertfordshire. White marquees stopped prying eyes and guests were asked not to hassle the attendant celebrities for autographs.

Cheryl continued the publicity shy theme by taking a turn in a horse drawn carriage with blacked out windows. Thrones, now a wedding essential it seems, were erected and the pair got matching tattoos to celebrate their love.

Guests included the rest of Girls Aloud, Rio Ferdinand, Kerry Katona, Wayne Rooney and Coleen Mcloughlin. Six lucky guests were also treated to £5,000 Cartier watches engraved with “15/7/06 Love Cheryl and Ashley”.

Roberto Cavalli designed Cheryl’s satin dress covered in pearls and Swarovski crystals, which was rumoured to cost £100,000!

OK! paid £1 million for rights to the wedding pictures and it certainly looked like Cheryl and Ashley spent most of it.
